8 Geek Items for the HUNGER GAMES Fan

Published February 29, 2012

Okay, so yes I said I’d post pics of my writing retreat this week, but…really, this post is so much more necessary. Tomorrow kicks off HUNGER GAMES MONTH (yay the movie!!!), and, of course, I’ve got to do my rabid fangirl part to obsess celebrate. (Also, before I forget–in the completely boring line of business–just an FYI that Google is supposed to be pulling their Google Friend Connect button–that thing over to your right with one hundred-and-fifty-something pictures of happy people and their cats–from all non-blogger sites tomorrow **sniff, sniff, waaaail**, so you might want to consider following this blog via email. Do you see that cute little envelope icon at the top, right edge of this post? That’s the one. Go at it.)

And now on to our post.

Because what book do we adore more than almost any other on the planet???

THE HUNGER GAMES!!!

(Side note: If you don’t love it, then leave now. You’re not allowed to laugh, snort, or guffaw with us today. Also? I cast a shrinking curse upon your underwear drawer.)

And WHAT, my preciouses, do we adore almost just as much as THE HUNGER GAMES?

The rabid fan girls and boys! All drooling and crazy and running around in our their cute little camo, sticking arrows in people and making the Mockingjay sign into our their PB&J pita sandwiches. This post is for us them. The brave rabid souls who need more HUNGER GAMES items to maintain our their rabid geek status. To us thee I bequeath (in order of random awesomeness):

The Hunger Games lightbulb. (via Crushable)

Hunger Games Lightbulb

  •

And what better use for said lightbulb than to illuminate your desk as you write lovely emails texts letters to your family back home. Although, too bad this doesn’t come with President Snow stationary. I’d totally use that for my mean official correspondence, like bills and income taxes. (via Crushable)

Hunger Games Stationary

  •

And ooh, Katniss’ bow! How cool would it be to slink amongst the trees at the mommy-and-me park playdate, looking all Katniss-like, while the other moms talk pedicures and Jershey Shore? BEST. THING. EVER. (via Hot Topic)

Also, single guys? This would be cool on your car’s dashboard. Probably even get you chicks. Hot geek ones. (via Hunger Games Movie)

Katniss action figure

  •

And if you’re worried girls won’t go for you because your man-beard hasn’t grown in yet. NO. WORRIES. Here’s a cutout of Seneca Crane’s beard! Just trim and paste onto desired scum-stache area. (Make sure to use Gorrilla Glue or cement paste since glue sticks will only give you about an hour’s worth of stickage. Also, duct tape is acceptable.) (via Pinterest)

And if you’re headed to the gym, don’t forget the Hunger Games water bottle. This baby’ll allow you to work out like a District Tribute while imagining Haymitch tossing croissants your way on the treadmill. (via The Mary Sue)

Of course, to go with that fancy dancy water bottle, you’ll need some fancy dancy food. And what could be more enticing than meals based upon the forages of the impoverished district residents. (via Think Geek)

Unofficial Hunger Games Cookbook

And finally…

Wait for it…

Wait for iiiiiiiiiit…

The HUNGER GAMES snuggie!!! Hahahaha…heck yeah. (via Cafe Press)

Do you love them? If so, please take the Rabid Fan Girl Test so we can be warned to see how dangerous far your rabid fangirl status reaches. And not to brag or anything but…I’ve got movie tickets for HUNGER GAMES’ opening night. Do you?

LOVE! Especially water bottle and the idea of popping off smarmy moms at the playground (yes, I said it.). Well done, Lady!

No opening night tickets for this baby-boomer. The eyelids roll down at 8:30 p.m., even if the streets don’t roll up. But I’d love to have the snuggly and watch it on pay-per-view. My birthday is coming up … *not a hint*

Tania, I vote you start your own Hunger Games black market over there. You could call it The Hob and serve greasy soup. :0)

Kelly, I swear I was sure I’d come across a Hunger Games flowbee. You know those old hair/blower/cutter things? Yeah. That would’ve been the ultimate.

I love The Hunger Games and I cannot say enough great stuff about it! I think these gifts/items are fun! I think the cookbook must be filled with some interesting dishes. The lightbulb would be a great way to light my office. :) I don’t have my tickets yet- I will be getting them soon. Can’t wait for the movie!!

I finally read The Hunger Games trilogy back in January after having it recommended to me by at least three people. It’s cool. My daughter and wife are now reading it. It has made my Favorite Book Series list (http://pubwrite.wordpress.com/favorite-book-series/), but if I had to rank order them, it might make the top five, certainly the top ten. The Wheel of Time series and A Song of Ice and Fire (which you have just started reading) easily top the list. Looking forward to see your write up on The Game of Thrones.

The pics/clips I’ve seen of Katniss aren’t quite how I pictured her, but as long as she does a good job of acting, she’s close enough.

Can’t wait for it to get released. Will see it opening weekend with my wife to determine if we’ll let our daughters see it.

LOL, these are awesome! That lightbulb is actually pretty cool and I’m having a chuckle at the Snuggie. People love their snuggies!

Love that video! Your blog is hysterical lolol

    Lori

I am so excited!!!! Seriously – I think I may pee my pants waiting in line for that opening night!!!! I think we should get the cookbook to make a tributes dinner before the show!

  17. 03.6.2012 / 10:05 am

    Lori

Also – can I say how exciting it is to actually be able to watch your videos from my home now that I don’t live in the boones!!!

(even though we moved, can we please still be included in your zombie apocalypse compound? I don’t think I’ll have allies here in town…)

    Mary

Jess, I love how excited you are! Long may our fangirl flags wave. ;0)

Rob, we’re doing the same thing–seeing it first before our oldest daughter. She plowed through the books and is quite put out that I want to see it before her. Ah, the privilege of being the parent… And my sister is all over The Wheel of Time series. She’s very much a fantasy fan and keeps feeding books my way. Which I think is her way of keeping me somewhat savvy. ;0) Did you do a review of the Song of Ice and Fire series? Link it over!

Jade, I confess I don’t understand the snuggie obsession! Although, in all fairness, I’ve never owned one. This HG one is tempting me to see what all the fuss is about. I adore the pockets on it! Plus, it kind of looks so regal and gamekeeperish (and slightly jedi-ish, no?).

JUDE!!! Yay for visiting us! Thanks! <—— You guys have to go check out Jude’s omnomnom book review site (click on her name in her comment above to link there). She’s got a fabulous voice for reviews and introduces the most awesome books!!!

Ooh, Lori, I like this “tribute’s dinner” idea. You’re on. Also, no worries about peeing yourself. I’m bringing my camera and will make sure to document it *evil laugh*. As to the issue of fast internet…OH MY GOSH. We’ve just upgraded ours (yes, they finally started offering better), and it’s AMAZING (so I cheer with you!). Although, I will admit that the past 3 days WITHOUT internet have been…interesting. And that’s a yes on the zombie apocalypse compound. Just remember the payment: vodka and chocolate.

    ;0)

It looks like the only one I reviewed was the fifth one. I linked it below. It doesn’t really give anything away other than the names of a few of the characters that are still alive.

    Gretchen

Should I admit that someone gave me the cookbook as a congratulations for getting my essay on the Trilogy published? Haven’t tried anything from it yet but looks fun!

Also, I just started Game of Thrones about a week ago and am loving it, what’s your take?

  21. 03.16.2012 / 2:15 pm

    Mary

Rob, great review!!! I’m (obviously) going to be a while getting through the series since I’m just starting, but your review makes me look forward to it even more! Thanks for posting the link!

Gretchen…that is awesome. Of course you had an essay published on it! Hahaha…you rule. And you need to try something from the cookbook so you can tell me about it. As to Game of Thrones, I’m enjoying it. Although (true confession), I had to take a break last weekend and whip through The Maze Runner. ;0)
