Middle Age Tech Support

Published September 17, 2010

Well, reading friendlies, it’s a happy news day in my little oak tree lined neck of the woods.

Firstly, I’m off to our San Luis Obispo Central Coast Writers’ Conference, at which, among other awesomlicious things, Nathan Bransford is our keynote speaker. I know, right? I’m almost jealous of myself for attending. (Speaking of me attending…THANK YOU, Jennifer V.)

Secondly…I signed a card copy contract this week with a division of Hallmark :-) . Cool, huh? Yes, I’m officially a card writer person. And can I just admit to you that it feels really good to see hard effort pay off? (‘Cuz I don’t mind saying that I work pretty crazy hard at this whole writing thing.)

And lastly, I leave you with a humorous video Mr. Nathan Bransford posted on his blog last week. I’ve kind of dubbed it “Middle Age Tech Support” (no offense to you middle aged peeps, but, well, you know… ;-)). Tell me what you think…

What Others Have To Say

So now you get paid to be witty and sweet? That’s quite awesome. And I am insanely jealous of your good fortune in getting to go to the writers conference… like, wow! You are officially the coolest person I know. Have a blast and learn lots of good things (and tell me if Nathan is really as rad as Natalie Whipple and Kiersten White proclaim).

Loved it! But just so you know, M. Christine…the first “affordable” personal computers (aka Apple IIe) were launched right about the time you started kindergarten . . and this “middle-aged” (clearing throat) granny figured out quite well how to open the box, plug it in, find the on switch, and make it “go.” LOL! Never had a class or a lesson in my life, but somehow I’ve managed to keep up (barely, I confess) – at least to be able to find your blog and comment. ;)

But please ask Nathan (if he knows)…what language were they pretending to speak in that hilarious video? Enjoy the conference. So glad you are there representing the DIVAS!

So funny! Proud of your accomplishments and since I am beyond “middle-aged” … oops I think a “gulp” is in order here I have a different take on the latest craze of today…. you remember in school reading up on hieroglyphics? It seems to me that the younger generation is going backwards… Let me illustrate –

    :) ;p :o :.) ~: o

Well unfortunately, that comment didn’t show up quite the way I wrote it and it cut off the last witty remark I ended with… but hey I am beyond middle-age and allowed to forget what it was I was just thinking let alone what I just wrote! :)

First, I’m so proud of you adding Hallmark to your list of accomplishments. Yes!!! Second, the video reminded me of someone I live with. . . . (No names will be mentioned and if he reads this he’ll know who I am talking about and I did buy him a manual and it still sits unopened because it is easier to use me as his talking manual.)

    1. OK that video was actually kind of funny and reminded me of this.
    2. Congrats on the card gig. I hope you manage to slip some little bits of amusement in there.
    3. Nathan in San Luis? That would be cool. Not that I would have anything to gain, as he’s already rejected my 1st book :P .

I love that because that is me! I kept waiting for him to ask how to save his place so the tech could give him a bookmark…
Congrats on Hallmark, having worked at one for 4 years and seen their descent into immoral content, it will be a joy to see what you come up with!

Dani, Nathan Bransford is officially rad AND attractive. ;-)

Jeanette, if only they could all see how completely computer illiterate I am ;-) . It’s sad, really, what you have to put up with in me! *snicker, snicker*

Lisa, I laughed in the middle of one of my classes when I saw your illustration! You’re awesome!

Mother, I hope you showed him this video. :-)

    Margo, thank you!!!

Andy, I’m sorry you got a rejection from him. That’s a bummer. You should’ve seen the query letter he had us come up with (which yours truly read aloud) in class. Yeah…it was a definite winner in the male romance category (or not). ;-) IF there WAS such a category…which, it’s probably a good thing there’s not. Ahem. Actually, the best query letter in the place was written by a bunch of jr. highers :-) .

Thank you, Sally :-) . Did you finish “The Dante Club”? By the way, I agree…the “bookmark” would’ve been a funny addition to the video!

I was totally joking, he seems like a really friendly, helpful guy and I would have loved to go the conference. I’m horribly out of the loop on the conference scene, which seems like the thing to pursue if one is serious. Note to self: be more serious.
